Evaluation of the effect of Carvacrol on retinal neovascularization in rats

Objectives: To compare the effect of intraperitoneal administered Carvacrol with bevacizumab in an oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) model rats.Materials and Methods: Twenty-eight newborn rats were included study OIR was created 50/10% oxygen style. The consisted 4 groups each rat received injection 0.01 mL once on postnatal 14th day. While not Group I (control group), it for Groups II, III, IV. II injected 0.9% NaCl solution, III bevacizumab, IV carvacrol. sacrificed 18th Results: Histopathological immunohistochemical studies showed that number retinal vascular endothelial cells (RVECs) nuclear factor (NF)-κB levels decreased similarly compared to II. RVECs values I, measured as 1.26±0.80, 27.10±3.63, 7.54±1.38, 6.22±1.22, respectively differed significantly between (p<0.001). Likewise, NF-κB recorded 0.61 ± 0.30, 4.36±0.65, 2.68±0.44, 2.85±0.58, On other hand, similar (p 0.58 0.91, respectively).Conclusions: demonstrated carvacrol reduced pathological neovascularizations, RVECs, levels. Moreover, observed effects comparable those bevacizumab.
